Capital City Farmers’ Market – Saturday, September 1 – 9am-noon

Preserving for winter continues. Another 19 jars of roasted tomato sauce on the shelf. Soon, I’ll blend basil leaves with olive oil and freeze them in little muffin tins for use during the cold months. Tossing a cube into a pasta dish or brushing it on toasted bread will replicate the feeling of summer when we need it most. And, zucchini is getting shredded and frozen for winter casseroles and muffins. We also like to slice, grill, and freeze zucchini for easy veggie paninis (try these spread with some Blue Cheese Walnut Pesto) or an easy addition to pizza and pasta.

We still have some warmth before winter, so let’s enjoy another market Saturday! Sampling is a wonderful way to find your way around the market.  Bad River Pack will gladly have you try some of their delicious pemmican. Venner Farm will be offering tastes of her English cucumbers. Lauren at hummingbird usually offers samples of her scrumptious shortbread. And, B&G Produce offers samples of Cilantro Jalapeno Hummus, Original Hummus, and Blue Cheese Walnut Pesto.

You’ll find a couple sales as you stroll through market on Saturday. Nancy’s Nest is offering beef bundles through September 8. B&G Produce will have sales on basil and zucchini/summer squash. Basil is buy 2, get your 3rd container free. Buy 5 lbs or more of zucchini/summer squash and save over 30%.

Plus, and this is a big one…the Bloodwashed Band of SD will be back this weekend entertaining us with their live music. It’s possible a couple of the young members of Kingsway will also join them. And, as an added bonus, the Master Gardeners will have a booth this weekend. Take a moment to sit and sip your coffee, maybe snack on some cookies and a pear, all while enjoying live music and market friends. We look forward to seeing you!

As a market, we accept credit cards and EBT. Shop vendors who accept cc/EBT and pay once before you leave! Stop at the Market Manager booth to start the process and have fun shopping.
