Market – Saturday, July 19

It continued this week…The “happenings”. On Sunday, Matt and I were taking a stroll through the garden and I was telling him that the beans would be ready soon. He walked over to a plant and said, “you mean these beans” as he picked a full-size bean from a plant. Oh my, I thought, they’re ready. About the same time, my dad walked over and said “Well, I have some more news for you. The zucchini and summer squash are ready to harvest as well.” I halted in my tracks. When? Did? This? Happen?

Don’t get me wrong, it’s good. Really good. We had dinner with some friends Wednesday night and made a Nicoise salad using our own lettuce, green beans, potatoes, eggs, their fresh tomato, and a couple other key ingredients. We didn’t talk through the meal. It was just a mix of ooohs, aaahs, yums, and this is so good!

The moral is, get it while it’s fresh and at its peak. A simple meal can be your best meal.

It’s going to get really steamy this week, which means many of the lettuces will decide it’s time to flower and go to seed. We plan to stop that by harvesting most of our lettuce this week. So, we’ll have an awesome assortment of fresh lettuce for you at market and you can make your own Nicoise, or whatever you like, salad!

Also, we’re excited to welcome Greater Oahe Action League (GOAL) as an informational vendor this week. They will have and talk about goals they are working on in our community, including urban hens, increasing local food availability, upcoming farm tours (B and G Produce on July 27!), and more.
