End of the Season! Capital City Farmers’ Market – Saturday, November 18 – 9am-noon

It’s finally here…our last market of the season. I want to take a moment to extend a huge debt of gratitude to all of the Capital City Farmers’ Market vendors and customers. Nine years ago when Julie, Matt, and myself conjured up the idea of a farmers’ market, our goal was to provide local produce, meat, and other products while also promoting small local farmers, ranchers, and craftsmen. As I look back at the markets this season, I’m so thrilled with the quality and quantity of items offered. It’s extremely rewarding to watch folks leave market each week with bags full of wonderful items to nourish their families. We hope to continue our growth, both in vendors and customers, for years to come. We can’t wait to start Season 10 next May!!

Now, let’s focus on the incredible Saturday ahead! What an opportunity to select a local turkey for your Thanksgiving meal! You can also purchase hummus for an appetizer, bread & biscuits for your dinner table, potatoes for some creamy mashed taters (My personal favorite item on the dinner table…every…year.), Brussels sprouts & parsnips for wonderful roasted vegetables, and winter squash to make pies (Ask us which ones will make stellar pie filling. Trust us on this!)topped with Grande Caramel to satisfy the sweet tooth in your family.

Maybe you are interested in stocking up on meat and produce for winter consumption? So many of these items will store well! Just ask us what to buy and how to store them. Also, be sure to try this Pot Sticker recipe. It’s amazing!

Don’t forget to grab some Christmas gifts from BLC Ranch. Anyone would be lucky to receive one of their hats, cowls, or wraps. They are wonderfully warm and beautiful as well! And, definitely stock up on dog biscuits for your favorite family member. I’m telling you, my neighbor dog, Hunter, stares longingly at me every morning until I give him his daily treat. He’s addicted.

As a market, we accept credit cards and EBT. Shop all the vendors and pay once before you leave! Stop at the Market Manager booth to start the process and have fun shopping.

Capital City Farmers’ Market – Saturday, November 11 – 9am-noon

Only two markets left, everyone! Two!! This will be the last weekend for Brewbirds this season. Be sure to grab a mocha before you shop!

Yay! Venner Farm is back on Saturday. Denise has freshly ground wheat flour from their organic wheat berries. She’s also bringing some of her amazing cookies, bars, and quick breads. Many of her items freeze really well. Ask her what you can freeze for future weekends curled up on your couch, watching a holiday movie, sipping hot cocoa, and eating something sweet and delicious.

Try these oh-so-yummy homemade pot stickers over the long weekend. You’ll love them! Grab the cabbage and carrots from B&G Produce. Also, be sure to pick up your favorite rustic bread, buttermilk biscuits, and hummus as this is the last weekend for these flavors!

As a reminder, Hanisch Farms will be here for our last market next weekend (November 18). They will have whole turkeys, sales on all ham products, eggs, and other holiday meats available. Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner! Buy your local meat now for both of these special days!!

Capital City Farmers’ Market – Saturday, November 4 – 9am-noon

Looks like we’re heading toward a fairly nice Saturday morning! I will be putting in my order for a Hazelnut Latte with an extra shot from Brewbirds pronto! A little caffeine buzz and warm fingers are nice on these chilly mornings.

If you didn’t get a chance to peek at BLC Ranch’s homemade cowls, be sure to do it this weekend. I can’t emphasize enough how much I love mine. I wore it again in the garden today and love it. You’ll see me wearing it Saturday again as well.

Have you ever thought about making your own sauerkraut? We started making ours a couple years ago and haven’t bought sauerkraut since! It’s so wonderful, I sometimes find Matt eating right out of the jar. This is a super simple fermentation process and results in extreme tastiness. This recipe is very similar to how we make ours. We usually ferment our kraut for about 6 weeks, however you can do it for less or more time depending on your taste preference.

Be sure to get all of your favorite bread, biscuits, and hummus this week from B&G Produce. This will be the last time to purchase these flavors this season!

As a market, we accept credit cards and EBT. Shop all the vendors and pay once before you leave! Stop at the Market Manager booth to start the process and have fun shopping.

Capital City Farmers’ Market – Saturday, October 28 – 9am-noon

Wind, wind go away. Come again…well, maybe just go away. It is a fierce wind today. I’m so thankful it is from the North and our tree belt is protecting the high tunnel. Yikes!

Brewbirds is joining us again this week! I’m excited to try something else from their menu and also to have something to keep my hands warm on Saturday. We tried a Mocha as well as their Chai last weekend. Both were yummy!

BLC Ranch is back this weekend with their warm and wonderful wool products. My favorite item is my wool cowl. I just slip it over my head and it keeps my neck incredibly warm. I absolutely LOVE it!

As we near the end of the season, you’ll start to see a lot of “last of the season” notes. Be sure to get those items when you can. This will be the last weekend to pick up some of the flavors of Rustic Bread as well as Buttermilk Biscuits. Both of these freeze beautifully. I think the Aged White Cheddar Sage biscuits would be awesome alongside your Thanksgiving dinner! Also, this is the last weekend for the Herbed Artichoke Hummus, so be sure to get yours on Saturday!

This will be the last weekend to pick up pumpkins! All pumpkin sales on Saturday will be donated to Paws Animal Rescue, so be sure to stop down and support a worthy (and furry) cause.

As a market, we accept credit cards and EBT. Shop all the vendors and pay once before you leave! Stop at the Market Manager booth to start the process and have fun shopping.

Capital City Farmers’ Market – Saturday, October 21 – 9am-noon

We hope you’ve been enjoying this lovely fall weather! We’ve been happily brewing the last jars of sun tea and watching the leaves dance their way to the ground. It’s been wonderful.

For those of you who missed out on B&G Produce’s last of the season potatoes…you’re in luck because Hanisch Farms has some available this weekend! Plus, they are having a sale on all pork products. And, don’t forget to get your holiday orders in for turkey, duck, goose, and ham. How awesome to be able to tell your family they are eating local meat for the holidays!

B&G Produce is introducing sweet potatoes and parsnips this weekend! Also, don’t forget to grab a Kakai pumpkin…it has the hulless pumpkin seeds, pepitas.

The awesome thing about produce this time of year is that is so easily preserves or holds for a long time in the fridge. Be sure to start stocking up, so you have local produce long after the market season ends on November 18.

Both B&G Produce and Hanisch Farms will also be at the East Pierre Landscaping Fall Festival from 1-5pm. Along with multiple other vendors, they will have a live band and a bar set up…plus complimentary cider and cookies, and fun activities for the kids!

As a market, we accept credit cards and EBT. Shop all the vendors and pay once before you leave! Stop at the Market Manager booth to start the process and have fun shopping.

Capital City Farmers’ Market – Saturday, October 7 – 9am-noon

Fall swiftly ushers out flip flops, warm weather crops (see B&G Produce’s “frost” sale below), BLTs, and enjoying sangria while watching a beautiful sunset. At the same time, it welcomes cooler weather (again…see B&G Produce’s “frost” sale), pumpkin spiced baked goods, cozy sweaters (BLC has amazing items), hearty stews, and sitting by the fireplace. We have hit Fall…or Fall has hit us. Either way, be sure to enjoy the bounty offered to you this weekend.

There are many new items this weekend! Be sure to check out Bad River Pack’s funky wool pillows. I was gifted one last week and it is adorable! Also, definitely pick up some Flom Kuchen. It is crunchy, salty, and lovely.

Be sure to stop at B&G Produce to pick up some Cilantro Jalapeno Hummus as this will be the last weekend to get it this season! B&G Produce is also holding some “frost” sales this weekend. You’ll find amazing prices on eggplant, bell peppers, jalapenos. Try these eggplant recipes, if you need some ideas. Bell peppers can simply be chopped and frozen, sautéed and frozen for fajita peppers, or try making stuffed peppers and freezing them for easy weeknight meals. And, jalapenos…if you haven’t made cream cheese stuffed bacon wrapped jalapenos, you haven’t lived. Plus, they freeze amazingly well.

As a market, we accept credit cards and EBT. Shop all the vendors and pay once before you leave! Stop at the Market Manager booth to start the process and have fun shopping.
